Program Description:

Buckhorn Children & Family Services was founded in Buckhorn, Kentucky in 1902 by the Rev. Harvey S. Murdoch, a Presbyterian Minister from Brooklyn NY. It was founded on the strong belief that, as Christian people we have an obligation to care for those who are most in need.

Over 100 years later, our Mission, “We Answer God’s Call to Seek Out Suffering Children and Families and Improve Their Lives” remains at the heart of our work. Through a variety of services, we care for abused and neglected children, birth to 18 years old, who come to us broken, untrusting, and without hope. We work to repair their damaged lives through residential services, treatment foster care and adoption, transitional living, and family preservation and reunification programs throughout Kentucky and Ohio.

Buckhorn’s dedicated employees work to Change Children’s Lives. You too can be a Change Agent by joining the Buckhorn family as a Foster Parent or as an Honorary Parent.

Buckhorn Children & Family Services is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), is a member of the Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies, the Children's Alliance of Kentucky, the Child Welfare League of America, and is a mission of the Presbyterian Church.

Buckhorn Children & Family Services is a private, non-profit agency that provides psychiatric residential treatment, residential treatment, treatment foster care and adoption, transitional living for young adults, and family preservation and reunification to children and families throughout Kentucky and Ohio. Buckhorn served over 700 children in the past year and retains over 200 employees.

Buckhorn is unique in that it actively seeks out the most troubled children and families. We welcome those who have been declared untreatable and unmanageable by other agencies and institutions... those who have faced a lifetime of rejection and multiple placements.

Buckhorn succeeds where others have failed ... Perseverance in the face of adversity is one of our core competencies. We create programs and facilities that meet the highest standards, asking, "Is this what I would want for my own child and family?"

Buckhorn Children & Family Services is governed by a Board of Directors composed of volunteers. Buckhorn is accredited by COA (Council on Accreditation) and is a member of the Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies, the Children's Alliance of Kentucky, and the Child Welfare League of America.
