Program Description:
Center for Change is devoted to providing a warm and caring atmosphere for those suffering from anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating and providing intensive treatment that gives hope, healing, and recovery towards a full and meaningful life. Our programs are founded upon three basic principles: 1) eating disorders are learned behaviors and therefore can be unlearned; 2) everyone has the capacity for full recovery; and 3) high-quality intervention by trained professionals in a nurturing and loving environment is the optimal treatment setting for providing positive solutions to these self-destructive behaviors.
Center for Change is a program offering acute inpatient and residential treatment for women and adolescent girls who suffer from eating disorders, providing various successive and transitional levels of care. We understand that eating disorders are complex, intensely personal illnesses that can damage a woman physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We work to heal the “whole person,” not simply temporarily change behavior. Our Center offers complete and specialized treatment for eating disorders, as well as concurrent illnesses including depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, self-injurious behaviors and more.
Center for Change is located at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. Our facility is situated on private property to afford maximum privacy and a magnificent view of the mountains. Grounds are beautifully landscaped to produce a peaceful, tranquil setting our patients can enjoy. Recreation areas are shielded by our building and offer adequate space to provide outside activites.
The design of the Center provides patients with privacy while the decor and attitude or our specialized staff creates a warm, caring atmosphere.
Our open setting is the cornerstone of our treatment program, providing an atmosphere of trust and growth. It has been the experience of the staff that seriously disturbed patients, particularly those whose oppositionalism and negativity lead to repetitive power struggles in more restrictive settings, can often adapt to an open setting in a way that permits a true therapeutic alliance to develop for the first time.
As many as 10% of American women between the ages of 14 and 30 suffer from an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. The severity of these disorders varies, but at some point in their disorder many will develop an addictive pattern in their lives that can only be overcome through intensive third-party intervention. Center for Change, based in Orem, Utah, stands ready to receive these women to help them regain not only their physical health, but also the hope for recovery and a normal life that many have lost.
Center for Change provides a caring and nurturing environment where women can heal under the constant supervision of a large staff of seasoned medical, psychological and nutritional experts. These individuals have been carefully selected because of their expertise in treating both the outward symptoms and underlying causes of eating disorders. The message of the Center for Change that "hope is real" is woven through the entire inpatient experience. Those who are fortunate enough to enjoy the Center for Change experience often comment that the Center has "given them back their life" and restored feelings of freedom that they haven't felt for a very long time.
