Program Description:

Copper Hills Youth Center meets the specific needs of residents with Aspergers Syndrome including providing the residents with the life skills, relationship skills, and communication skills necessary to become productive members of their community.

COPPER HILLS YOUTH CENTER is a 126-bed private adolescent residential treatment center for teenagers 12-17 years of age. The youth placed in our care can no longer remain in their home communities because their lives have become unmanageable. Their lives are usually spinning out of control and clearly out of focus. Often their problems are layered with drug and alcohol abuse or misuse.

COPPER HILLS YOUTH CENTER is located in West Jordan, Utah which is part of the Great Salt Lake City Valley. It is here that we provide a highly structured and safe environment where the residents begin to work on the issues that have caused their lives to spiral out of control.

It is our commitment to each youth placed in our care to help, teach, mentor, and give them a chance to change, one youth at a time.

COPPER HILLS YOUTH CENTER is owned by Horizon Health Corporation and is part of the Horizon Health Corporation's Network of Services for troubled youth.

We are...

Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)

Mission Statement

We believe that through teamwork, integrity, accountability, communication and respect, Copper Hills Youth Center will strive to make changes for the greater good and provide extraordinary service to the youth we serve, their families, our employees, and the community of which we are a part.

Copper Hills Youth Center will be invested in the youth and the families we serve and be a catalyst for positive change in their lives. This will be accomplished through thorough research, quality programming, collecting and analyzing data, and a willingness to exhaust every ethical means necessary to produce the desired change. We will be relentless.

Respect: We believe that each individual is unique, possessing intrinsic value and capable of change, therefore, deserving of our respect.
Integrity: We believe in integrity by doing the right thing and doing it well, regardless of the consequences.
Teamwork: We believe in working as a team through open and continuous dialog in which all have a respected voice, recognize our interdependence and advocate for the greater good.
Communication: We believe that through active listening, empathy, understanding, honesty, cooperation, and recognition of the importance of others we will communicate the needs of those we serve and represent.
Accountability: We believe in accountability for the outcomes of words and deeds.

COPPER HILLS YOUTH CENTER is designed for treatment-resistive adolescents needing increased structured care and 24-hour supervision, including those who have failed outpatient care or who no longer require acute care. We offer gender-specific programming for both boys and girls.

INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT: An individualized treatment plan is developed by the interdisciplinary team of professionals that include physicians, nurses, teachers, licensed therapists and mental health associates. These professionals join with family and a positive peer culture to lead, guide and create an interactive and flexible environment for change. Our treatment plans and therapeutic assignments are individualized and based on each child's abilities and needs.

THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY: An interactive resident community revolves around personal accountability, leadership, group support, social skills and assertiveness training. Therapeutic intervention provides residents with individual, group and family therapy conducted by licensed clinicians. Certified Recreational Programs demonstrate balance in daily living with physical education and leisure skill activities played out in a variety of settings to include, but not limited to local community parks, ropes courses, hiking, camping and river running.

EDUCATION: A fully accredited private school insures that students advance in their learning. The educational program places singular emphasis on developing a student's self esteem through specialized academic instruction with behavioral and social-emotional components. Instructors work in tandem with the therapeutic community in providing a positive and successful learning environment. A curriculum of English, Science, Social Studies, Math and Physical Education bring balance to the individual student abilities, needs and assessments including those with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. School instruction and study time meet all accreditation requirements. The credits that are earned at Copper Hills are transferable. At the time of discharge, an official school transcript is forwarded to the appropriate home school district.
