Founded in 1978, Family Life Center is a truly exceptional residential treatment program and private school. Integrating state-of-the-art treatment and educational programs in a nurturing family environment, Family Life Center has achieved a distinctive “Learning Community”.
Family Life Center offers a rare opportunity for children to transform dysfunctional and destructive patterns into positive, self-sustaining values that encourage a healthy, balanced way of life. Our program is designed to teach students to integrate and ground important life decisions in core values such as love, joy, compassion, and equanimity.
Our non-public school, Larry M. Simmons High School, is certified by the State Department of Education and has the distinction of being accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Family Life Center provides an educational program that is responsive to the individual needs of each student. Educationally challenged students can improve their academic performance, successfully work with learning disabilities and earn their high school diploma. Educationally advanced students have the opportunity to participate in junior college courses, research scholarships and alternatives for higher education.
Sometimes nature can be the most effective teacher and the most powerful healer. When faced with the challenges of nature, the negative consequences of impulsivity, selfishness, passivity, and misdirected anger are swift and undeniable. In contrast, teamwork, careful planning, responsibility and emotional balance always lead to positive outcomes.
Students participate in many professionally supervised wilderness experiences that teach them about themselves and nature, build self-esteem and leadership skills, and provide a healthy outlet for physical expression. Our highly trained staff always place safety first, a value that helps to explain Family Life Center’s unsurpassed safety record.
