Program Description:
Grove School believes education is a continuing process that does not end at the classroom door. We aspire to maximize our students’ considerable educational abilities through individualized instruction, and psychotherapy, based on interpersonal relationships. We stress the development of practical group living skills, yet we recognize the need to deal with each child on the basis of that child’s individual issues.
Grove school is an excellent placement for emotionally troubled, fragile boys and girls 11 years of age and older with average or above average intelligence who have been unsuccessful in making a satisfactory adjustment in their homes, schools, or social relationships. Our students may have Attention Deficit Disorder, Low Self-Esteem, Hyperactivity, Bipolar Disorder, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Depression, or have Asperger’s Syndrome or Non-Verbal Learning Disorder.
Grove School’s large staff enables us to design and implement individual academic and extracurricular programs appropriate to students’ needs. We have over 30 certified content Area and Special Education teachers who follow IEPs or Comprehensive Service Plans that have been developed in conjunction with parents and/or sending authorities. We carefully monitor and alter these programs to match the changes that take place in each student’s personal and social development. We attempt to meet each individual at their functioning level, to utilize their interests, and, through therapeutic re-education, help them achieve academic and personal success. Our clinical staff is composed of 5 psychiatrists and 8 other clinicians, including Ph.D. psychologists, LCSWs and LMFTs. All students are seen two times per week in individual psychotherapy. They are seen in group therapy as well, some of which are theme oriented. An important part of our Activities Program is ASTEE, Alternative Therapeutic and Educational Experiences. This includes Adventure, Caribbean and foreign travel including humanitarian missions.
