La Amistad Behavioral Health Services is set in quiet residential areas in Maitland and Winter Park, Florida. The therapeutic environment at La Amistad is serene and homelike, and the semitropical climate of Central Florida allows for year-round activities. Our greatest asset is our staff, comprised of psychiatrists, psychologists, professional nurses, social workers and therapists, who work as a team to uphold La Amistad's reputation for excellence in helping patients resolve behavioral health problems.

La Amistad Behavioral Health Services is a leader in the field of behavioral healthcare, and our experts are committed to providing the highest quality of care in an atmosphere that nurtures healing and growth. La Amistad Behavioral Health Services believes in building healthy communities, which start with healthy individuals, linked through sound relationships to their families, friends, neighbors and peers.

Assessment and Admissions

Our admission staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer questions and to determine the needs of specific individuals; however, admissions must be scheduled. The initial consultation is provided free of charge.

Behavioral healthcare starts with an evaluation comprised of a clinical interview with one of our mental health specialists. Following that session, a comprehensive recommendation is made to the individual and/or their family for either ongoing outpatient counseling, residential care, or further physical/psychological assessment.

La Amistad Behavioral Health Services accepts private pay and all major insurance coverage. We strive to be cost-effective in delivering the highest standard of care while working closely with patients, their families, agency representatives, insurance companies and managed care groups in determining all payment options available. Most insurance companies have established contracts with us, including TRICARE, formerly known as CHAMPUS. The Business Office will assist families and professionals in working with their insurance companies to certify the client for treatment. Private pay rates can be discussed as requested.

As an accredited educational program for Children and Adolescents, La Amistad may be funded through student loan programs, available through private lenders. To assist families in obtaining financing, La Amistad has established relationships with lenders who are familiar with our programs. Please ask for additional information through our Intake department.

Strong family involvement is recommended. This is encouraged through family therapy, frequent visits and telephone calls. Work with geographically distant families is enhanced through conference calls with the facility staff, child and family, and when appropriate, the referring professional. Attendance at the monthly Parent Weekend is also encouraged.

Wellness Activities

Wellness is a way of life. It's feeling good to be alive and feeling good about one's self. Wellness is being the healthiest possible. It represents a way of life achieved through an increased awareness of the physical and psychological condition and a willingness to take on responsibility for one's own well-being. This is accomplished by balancing the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of life.

The "Wellness Workout" includes four major components:

SELF-RESPONSIBILITY
Being aware of your body's signals and taking control.

NUTRITIONAL AWARENESS
Maintaining your ideal weight and eating a healthy balanced diet.

STRESS MANAGEMENT
Recognizing life's stresses and using that energy for positive tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Understanding the negative impact on the body by using cigarettes, alcohol, and other addictive substances.

By deciding to purchase and carefully selecting the equipment for the La Amistad Wellness Center, we have taken an important step in helping to maintain or improve the quality of life of our residents. The treadmill, elliptical trainer, and recumbent bike are all pieces of equipment that are effective tools for achieving wellness.

Some Benefits of a Regular Exercise Include:

Weight loss
A healthier heart
Improved muscle tone
Increased daily energy levels
Reduced stress
Increased resistance against anxiety and depression
Improved self image
Residents will have the opportunity to utilize the exercise equipment multiple times during the week. Level 3 and above residents will use Bally's Fitness Club on the days and times that the Wellness Center is not available.

All activities in the Wellness Center are monitored and supervised by a Certified Recreational Therapy and highly trained staff members. All staff attend orientation and learn operational guidelines for each piece of equipment.
