Program Description:

The Monarch Center for Family Healing, formerly known as Trailhead Wilderness School, is a privately owned and operated wilderness program for youth between the ages of 10 – 18 years old. We are located in Georgetown, Colorado, which is approximately one hour west of Denver. Our wilderness courses operate in the Rocky Mountains during the summer months and in various locations including the Grand Canyon, Bandelier National Monument and Escalante National Monument in the winter.

The Monarch Center for Family Healing offers a wilderness therapy treatment program that provides help for youths and troubled teens between the ages of 10 and 18 that are struggling with their relationships with parents, friends, teachers, delinquency, substance abuse, poor school performance, legal problems, etc.

The Monarch Center operates a wilderness therapy program, in the state of Colorado, (Arizona, and New Mexico in the winter) for troubled teens who are in need of at least 30 days of intensive therapeutic intervention. Although the struggling youth leaves the home and spends most of the time in the backcountry, families and parents are strongly encouraged to participate as much as possible in the intervention through family intensives, family therapy sessions, spending time in the backcountry with their teen, etc. The experience focuses on root causes of behavior, emotional growth, relationships, dynamics, substance abuse treatment, etc.

Additionally the Monarch Center offers multi-cultural, humanitarian and emotional growth oriented programs for groups of either adolescents or adults.

The Monarch Center Vision
To facilitate family-centered and holistic therapeutic interventions for families with youth who are seeking greater emotional health, more authentic relationships as well as a more complete level of personal expression. All of our programs will rest on a foundation of Gestalt and wilderness therapy principals. Our goal is to create and facilitate innovative programs and interventions that are of the highest quality, integrity and effectiveness.

Each of our staff will commit themselves to their own professional and personal growth and exploration with the understanding that they cannot lead and walk with others to places they have not gone themselves.

As an organization, we will support all of the above with every available resource.

The Monarch Center Mission

Monarch Center is an innovative Gestalt and wilderness therapy program designed to facilitate growth and health in the family system and within the larger context of community.
