Program Description:
Second Nature Cascades is a licensed treatment program that uses the wilderness setting in a clinically focused intervention to teach students accountability, communication skills, and health emotional and behavioral habits. Treatment plans are individualized for each student and include flexible lengths of stay, single gender treatment groups, daily group therapy, and individualized therapy sessions with doctorate level therapists twice weekly.
Welcome to Second Nature - the industry's most sophisticated wilderness therapy treatment program. At Second Nature we provide insight, direction and hope to troubled teens and their families. As the therapists and other staff members help your teen discover the reasons behind his/her actions, your teen becomes a student of self. She/he can then make healthy choices concerning the future.
We understand that many parents are not sure where they can go for teen help. We have an entire staff of qualified individuals who will provide solutions to your questions about your troubled teen, his/her needs, and your own needs.
We congratulate you on taking the first step to help your teen. By seeking out information about a therapy program, you could literally change your child’s life as well as your own. Second Nature offers a variety of troubled teen programs. Our Program
Second Nature begins the treatment process by helping parents gain basic control of their adolescent child. Often students come to teen wilderness programs with high levels of acting out (anger towards parents, substance abuse, and breaking of family and school rules) or withdrawal (teen depression, academic failure, and poor social skills). Wilderness therapy begins with the end in mind: teaching your child to be and feel responsible for his/her actions, words, thoughts, and feelings while showing them accountability for those choices.
The wilderness environment, combined with clear boundaries from the family and treatment team, serve to contain acting out behavior and engage students who have been withdrawn. Early on, the focus of treatment is simple accountability and acceptance of the need for time away from family and usual environments. After accepting the structure of the wilderness environment and peer group, your child will focus on accountability and personal engagement in the program; we work with your teen’s strengths to confront his/her frailties, not the other way around.
At Second Nature, your child stops looking for someone to blame for his/her unhappiness because the impulse to avoid fault drops away. When your son or daughter learns accountability and engages in personal growth, she or he can then develop boldness and mastery with tasks and relationships. This transformative experience develops a deep and reassuring confidence that continues to empower the student in wilderness therapy as well as to you at home.
