Program Description:

The Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky began as an orphanage in 1882 when Colonel Amos Shinkle founded the Covington Protestant Children’s Home in downtown Covington. After industry moved into the area in 1924, a new home was constructed in the lush surroundings of what is now known as Devou Park.

As the need for orphanages decreased and the need for long-term treatment for children with emotional, behavioral, and social issues emerged, the Children’s Home adjusted its programs to best serve the community’s needs. We now serve Kentucky children and families through our Residential Treatment Program and Community Based Services.

Our Values

Children & Families
We place children and families at the center of all we do. We advocate for the safety, well-being and best quality of life possible for each child, family member and employee.

Creativity & Innovation
We create an environment that nurtures independent thinking, free and open expression of ideas, and innovative approaches to achieve our goals.

We encourage a learning environment that offers everyone an equal opportunity to grow, flourish, and contribute.

We respect, explore, and embrace individual and family differences and celebrate our common interests.

Integrity & Professionalism
We maintain the highest moral and ethical standards by extending the same respect, cooperation, and caring that we expect from others.

Continuous Improvement
We pursue the highest standards of excellence and embrace change as the road to new opportunities.

Community & Collaboration
We strive to build a stronger community committed to these common values and principles. We share knowledge and encourage leadership within the Home, the social service environment and community we live in.

The Children's Home of Northern Kentucky has made a commitment to diversity on all fronts:
• promoting and cultivating a diverse workforce
• instilling a welcoming environment
• bolstering respect for cultural differences in the delivery of care and services
• advancing our community outreach

We respectfully provide care and services regardless of race, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status or disability.
